<strong>Period of Effect:</strong> 06/11/2023 to 01/07/2024<br/><strong>Reason:</strong> 30-20 Order[POPUP_FOR_DETAILS]<br/><strong>Code breach(es):</strong> <ul><li>30-10(1) - You must act honestly and with integrity</li><li>30-10(8) - You must maintain knowledge and skills relevant to the tax agent services that you provide</li></ul><br/><strong>Explanation:</strong> On 28 September 2023, after completing an investigation into registered tax agent Ms Luisa Lai, the Tax Practitioners Board (the Board) decided Ms Lai breached subsections 30-10(1) and 30-10(8) of the Code of Professional Conduct (the Code) in the Tax Agent Services Act 2009 (TASA).<br>The Board found Ms Lai breached the Code by:<br>1. making a false statement in her individual renewal application lodged with the Board;<br>2. failing to complete the minimum level or relevant continuing professional education (CPE) requirements during the period 20 April 2018 to 20 April 2021<br>3. failing to undertake the minimum number of CPE hours required (being 10 hours per year) for the period 21 April 2021 to 20 April 2022<br>4. failing to undertake the minimum number of CPE hours required (being 10 hours per year) for the period 21 April 2022 to 20 April 2023.<br>Taking into account all of the circumstances, the Board decided to impose an order under section 30-20 of the TASA, requiring Ms Lai to undertake and complete a course of education in the TASA, within three (3) months of the date of the order, and complete 80 hours of CPE (in addition to the course in the TASA) before her renewal of registration on 1 July 2024 and to provide full records of her completed CPE with her renewal application.<br>
